For the Left Front government, this is the last budget session before the vote-on-account in 2011, preceding the elections in June next year.
According to the decisions taken by the Business Advisory Committee, the proceedings on March 10 will be dedicated to commemorate former chief minister Jyoti Basu and a formal obituary will be offered to him on the following day. Governor M K Narayanan will address the House for the first time since taking oath. Seven legislations, including the Bill to provide Presidency College a university status, are likely to be passed in the session.
The Trinamool Congress, meanwhile, is warming up to take on the ruling party on the issue of unrest in Jangalmahal and the ‘failure’ of the joint forces in tackling the Maoist problem in the state.
The CPM, meanwhile, is likely to play on the alleged Trinamool-Maoist link, which, it says, has resulted in their supporters being killed in the past few months.
