Crime Branch arrests four in house break-in, theft cases

Mumbai, January 2 The Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Monday arrested four persons for their alleged involvement in 24 house break-ins and theft cases at offices in the city. According to the police, during their interrogation, the gang said they had committed thefts at 100 offices in the city.

The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammed Wasim Chaudhary (27), Alauddin Khan (26), Ubedulla Islam Khan alias Chikna (21) and Mohammed Firoze Khan alias Babloo (21).

“Officers of the Crime Branch Unit 3 received a tip-off that the quartet would be assembling outside Mahalaxmi railway station with the intention of committing a theft at an office in the Tardeo area. Accordingly, a trap was laid at the said place and the four men were arrested,” said Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Rakesh Maria.

“So far we have established their involvement in 24 break-ins and theft cases in the city, but we are checking their involvement in other cases as well. During their interrogation, they claimed to have committed 100 thefts by breaking into offices between Dadar and Colaba,” said Maria.

The police have recovered stolen property worth Rs 6,15,000 from the accused, comprising 3,500 UAE Dirhams, two mobile phones and Rs 5,70,000 in cash.

According to the police, Chaudhary, the alleged leader of the gang, owns a plot of land in Kalamboli area of Navi Mumbai, along with three trucks, a scrap trading unit in central Mumbai and also a recently constructed house. Allaudin owns a house and a car, while Ubedulla owns two acres of land and a house in Bhiwandi.
