Surat Three members of a local gang — wanted in a murder case — fired four rounds at the city Crime Branch officers in Kadodra village on the outskirts of the city on Sunday, according to the police.

None of the police officers were injured.

The miscreants, however, managed to escape. Sources said that the police officers did not fire in retaliation.

The incident took place near Bardhari hotel on the Kamrej-Kadodara road, where the Crime Branch officers had laid a trap for the criminals following a tip-off.

But the goons, who belonged to notorious

Dinesh Vascod gang, sensed the trap and opened fire at the police before disappearing in the nearby fields, the police said.

The gang members — Sanjay, Anil and Atul — are wanted in a murder case and the police have been on their trail for quiet some time now.

An additional police force has been called in from the nearby Bardoli, Palsana and Kamrej police stations, who along with the Crime Branch, are conducting a search operation to nab the culprits, they added.
