Lucknow A day after creating a ruckus in the campus, the members of the Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU) teachers association apologised in writing to Vice-Chancellor Dr S C Gopal.

This comes after a group of doctors forcibly entered the office of the V-C and abused the members of the selection committee. The general body meeting of the association took place in the campus on Sunday. After the meeting, association members concluded that Dr Naim Ahmed, the general secretary of the association was “inadvertently carried away” by the circumstances.

In a letter to Gopal, the authorities wrote: “The association and Dr Naim Ahmed in his individual capacity deeply regret the incidents and feel sorry for the same to the V-C.”

While the teachers continued to condemn the slapping of Naim by Police Circle officer and maintained that the Commissioner of Police should also apologise for the incidents, the doctors have requested the V-C to withdraw all FIRs that have been lodged after the incident against the teachers and remove the police force from the campus.

A day after sitting on a dharna, demanding to stop the promotions as per the selection committee, the association requested the V-C to defer the process for some time. At the same time, they mentioned that in case the process of selection committee continues, “none would hinder the process nor obstruct any member to attend the interview if he or she desires the same”.

On Saturday, the V-C had also lodged an FIR against the group of doctors led by Dr Naim as they barged into the room, where the interview for a promotion of Dr Promila Verma was in process. Verma had started crying, alleging that she was forced by certain members of the faculty not to appear for the interview.

As for the FIR against faculty members, Gopal said: “The law would take its own course but I can promise I would not pursue the matter from my end now.”
