Colourful buffet
Sumita Acharya playfully calls her show Smorgasboard using the word as a metaphor for a buffet of colours both hot and cold. Her intention is to present her recent works done in an Abstract Expressionist style inspired by Fauvism-an early 20th century art movement marked by bold, vivid colours and expressive lines pioneered by Henri Matisse. Through this Fauvistic approach that artist strives to explore subjects like still life, a cityscape, a verdant landscape, human beings and their emotions and a new series called Mumbai Portrait.

Premium works
A group exhibition of paper works, acrylic and oils by names like Jogen Chowdhury, Luxma Goud, Sakti Burman, S H Raza, Sunil Das, K K Hebber and Manish Pushkale are on display. A must-see show that will allow collectors to look at and perhaps buy works by the master artists at prices that do not break the bank balance. Each work is a piece in itself.

Poetry galore
The celebration of poetry in the city will peak this week as Prithvi Theatre plays host to Celebrating Poetry. This flaunts a crammed three-day schedule, starting on Monday. The annual festival will take off with Ni Shabda Sukta as Harish Meenashru and Chandrakant Shah recite their original contemporary Gujarati poems. This will be followed by Ujale Safed Kabootar which will feature the poetry of Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Safi Abdi, Mahmoud Darwish and Nizar Qabbani. Vikalp will present two films-Had-Anhad: Journeys with Ram & Kabir and Koi Sunta Hai: Journeys with Kumar & Kabir-that evening. On the following day, Arundhathi Subramaniam, Jerry Pinto, Ranjit Hoskote and Sampurna Chattarji will read out poetry in the opening session. Caferati’s Open Mic will give a chance to read two minutes of your own original poetry. Sridhar Thayil’s dark Indian twist to opera will be staged at 8 pm, followed by Aranya’s Shabd Sangeet. More performance poetry will takes place on Wednesday. Ajay Kumar will give a peek into the traditional storytelling form of Katha Gayan Vaachan. A session on will keep the visitors engrossed next, before the event will be wrapped with Ghazal Ka Safar.
