Secondly we were able to also expand our tobacoo related activities and sensitize six more schools, bringing the total number to 20.
Then we have been craving to start a peripheral centre in Maharashtra and managed to do so this year at Nashik. We now have two doctors going there every month and holding consultations. This project had been stuck for many year but now with this one starting I can see the whole thing taking off. We started it in 2007 and now in 2008 we are determined to take it forward. Another thing we could not manage earlier but which fell into place this year was our psycho-oncology program for our patients. We have two psycho-oncologists with us right now and it’s a big step forward. We were also recognised world over for our clinical trials, which was very gratifying.
Every year we draw up a list of things we need to do. Some happen, some don’t but somehow in 2007 most of our plans and programs were realised. I guess this is because over the years we have matured and now know how to go about things.
Finally, I would like to add that personally too I was able to take out time and achieve a certain mastery over the onco-plastic surgery procedure for breast reconstruction and sentinal node biopsy technique, which is a professional expertise I wanted for a long time.
So all in all it’s been a good year for all our efforts and the fight against cancer and we look forward to taking each of them further forward in 2008.
