Recently, the Surat Customs Department was given a vessel by the government to keep tab on illegal activities in the deep sea. The Magdalla port in Surat has the presence of heavy industries with many national and international companies setting up their units in the area.
The Magdalla area is very sensitive as the heavy industries demand high security. Both the Magdalla and Dahej ports are known for high revenue generation. The Customs department had collected revenue to the tune of
Rs 3,720 crore in the last financial year.
A Customs official said that anti-national activities can be now monitored by patrolling the deep seas.
“We are well-equipped with the latest weapons and the patrolling will be done at night as well as during daytime. The new vessel is Singapore made and can carry eight people. It is 9 metres long and 3 metres wide.
