There are chances that a high profile client of a posh salon may ask for a sadhi cut hairstyle and a street smart may ask for Ghajini look from his local nhavi. And this is one common faced by a roadside barber and a suave hair stylist. In the same profession yet different, the barbers and hair stylist have much in common when it comes to the problems. Bridging the difference, Sheela Madhumal, a city based hair stylist, is coming up with a hair club that would conduct interactive session among its members that is- the local barbers and high profile hair stylist.

“While the professional hair stylists lack the drive to reduce their prices to lure the common man, the barbers do not have the finesse and the grace or the technical knowledge of the pros. As a result of this the common consumer is left with choice of selecting either one at either the cost of his hair or his wallet,” says Madhumal, adding, “The common platform will facilitate the mutual exchange of ideas and also knowledge so that everyone including the common customer is benefited,” she adds.

Rahul Gaikwad, who owns a hairdressing shop in camp, he says, “Money is the major difference and the quality follows it. Because we do not charge exorbitantly we also cannot afford to bring in expensive cosmetics and hair colours nor can we afford to be experimental with people’s hair. But with the club I think we will be able to deliver more.”

Riyaz Sheikh, who owns a hairdressing shop on Aundh road, says, “We have youths from the local chals. Our being ignorant of the technicalities of modern hairstyles puts us in a tough spot. Going in to an expensive salon they are guaranteed of the good haircuts but which are highly priced. We expect to serve our customers better by attending the club.”

Speaking about their own set of issues, Vijay Tamang, of Juice Salon and Spa, says, “Despite a wider range of choices, the common customer is unsettled as far as the pricing is concerned, which is obviously on the higher side. We hope the club brings us closer to the masses.”
