Cyclist crushed by bus

Chandigarh A 25-year-old man died after a speeding bus hit the bicycle he was riding near the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Hallomajra in the early hours of Monday. Malkiat Singh was a resident of village Jagatpura in Mohali.

Police said Malkiat was returning home after meeting his relatives when the speeding bus hit his cycle from behind. The bus driver did not stop and fled from the spot.

An eyewitness told the police that he heard the bus apply emergency brakes before hitting the cyclist. As he rushed to the spot, he found Malkiat in a pool of blood. The eyewitness said the bus driver had fled from the spot before he could take down its registration number.

Police rushed the victim to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32 where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Inspector Bhupinder Singh, Station House Officer, Sector 31 police station, said a case on charges of rash driving and causing death due to negligence had been registered against the unidentified bus driver.

Truck rams scooter, two injured
Panchkula:
Two minor brothers were injured after their scooter was hit by a truck in Sector 15 on Monday. Sravan, 17, and Pradeep, 13, were rushed to General Hospital in Sector 6 from where they were referred to the PGI. The condition of both the teenagers, residents of Budhanpur village in Sector 16, is reported to be stable now. “They took my scooter to the Sector 15 petrol pump to get it refilled. Eyewitnesses told us that the driver of the truck reversed his vehicle without any indication, hitting the scooter in the process,” said Rajesh, the older brother of the two. While the driver of the truck fled from the spot, the police have impounded the vehicle and registered a case.
