Suresh Kalmadi, a member of parliament and CYG’s organising committee chairman, conducted the meeting. Also present were Sandhya Mulchandani, adviser, CWG Delhi 2010, Vijay Kumar Gautam, chief operating officer, CWG Delhi 2010, and Municipal Commissioner Praveensinh Pardeshi, among other officers.
In its presentation, the organising committee discussed the important objectives of its ‘Green Pune’ programme. Issues such as waste management, anti-litter campaign, sustainable transport, No Plastic at Balewadi, extensive tree plantation and eco-friendly construction at sports venues have been taken up in this mandate. Suresh Kalmadi also mentioned some innovative programmes to be undertaken such as ‘Ride and Return Cycle Project,’ which has been planned as a legacy for the city and is a sustainable transport system. The project will be led by Ranjit Gadgil and programme director Janawani and will involve cycle track on main roads and cycle stations at intervals of 200 km. People can rent a cycle at a nominal cost and deposit it at any other station. Waste management was also discussed.
