“That will be one of the main topics on the agenda for the AGM. We will discuss ways and means for the development of athletics at the grassroots level during our meeting to be held in March,” said Salwan. Apart from emphasis on improving infrastructure, DAA will also focus on weekend competitions for school students. “We are also looking for institutions that are willing to cooperate and invest in athletics,” he added.

On the lines of the throw academy which is being run at Salwan Public School (Rajinder Nagar) in the Capital, DAA is planning to have more such academies. “Delhi has always been home for top sprinters. To keep churning out good sprinters, we are looking for an institution that will provide us with facilities to run an academy,” he said.

Besides throws and sprint, DAA also wants to focus on middle distance. To build infrastructure, DDA hopes to rope in both government and private sectors. “There should at least be one 100m stretch of six-lane synthetic track at schools. That will give a chance to budding athletes to hone their skills,” he said.

DAA president also expects the new policy to be implemented from the next academic session in April.
