Kanpur After a brief lull, dacoits have struck again in the Auriaya district, killing three persons in Gauhani Khurd village on Monday night.

The victims were former Gram Pradhan Tilak Singh Yadav, his wife Sarojni Devi and Balbeer Singh Yadav.

A villager, Yashwant Singh Yadav, said Bhan Singh, his gang member Tehsil Singh and four other dacoits arrived in the village and knocked on the door of Tilak. Balbeer, a neighbour, was at Tilak’s house at that time. The dacoits shot dead Tilak, Sarojni and Balbeer, threatened a massacre of the Yadavs and then left firing volleys of bullets in the air.

Following the incident, police teams have been deployed in the ravines of Ayana, Chambal and Bhare areas, which falls under the districts of Auraiya and Etawah. Director General of Police Vikram Singh said: “We have started combing operations and instructions have been issued to eliminate all the dacoit gangs in the ravines.”

Auraiya Superintendent of Police Nachiketa Jha said the murder was a result of personal enmity. Sources said Bhan Singh believed that Tilak was a police informer.
