In the afternoon, as the quantum of sentence was pronounced, Pandher called his 25-year-old son, Karndeep, close to him. During the arguments, Pandher was seen kissing his son’s hand, who stood next to him teary-eyed.
Koli, on the other hand was seen mumbling, but wore an expressionless face.
After Pandher was sentenced to death, Karndeep alleged angrily that his father was a victim of trial by media.
Pandher, while being taken away by the police, told his son not to appeal against the verdict in the High Court.
“My father asked me not to appeal against the court’s decision. But we will file an appeal and prove that he is innocent. I love him,” he said. Then he sarcastically ‘thanked’ the media. Pandher’s wife
Devender Kaur was also near tears.
“We are shocked. Justice has eluded us,” she said in a choked voice.
On the other hand, the judgement was a surprise for the Haldars. “We always wanted the killers of our daughter to be punished. Pandher was an influential man. I was sure that this man was also involved and should not get away,” said Anil Haldar, Rimpa’s father. Haldar also added that the judgement has come as a relief to many.
The families of many other Nithari victims have now become hopeful for getting justice for their brutally murdered children.
