Sources said Dadwal passed an order on Friday, January 16, directing heads of all departments to conduct an “audit” and submit a report to his office regarding vehicles being used by their respective staff. This follows an order last month reminding gazetted officers and subordinate staff of the Delhi Police about the limits of use of government vehicles not meant for personal usage.

Police sources said the idea behind frequent orders by the Delhi Police chief is to balance the raise in the amount of transport allowances given to the Delhi Police under the Sixth Pay Commission. “There has been a tremendous increase in the transport allowance under the Sixth Pay Commission, and keeping that in mind, the police commissioner has cracked the whip on officers reportedly receiving both transport allowances and using the allotted government vehicles for personal use,” police sources said.

The order passed by Dadwal states that heads of all departments should conduct an audit in their districts or departments and make a list of personnel who have been allotted government vehicles. The order also states that an audit needs to be conducted following reports that personnel were overusing vehicles they are entitled to.

Deputy Commissioner of Police N S Bundela said: “It’s an internal affair in which we have been asked to given an audit of government vehicles allotted to personnel. We have to give details about the vehicles issued.”
