Kanpur, February 4 Three days after a Dalit youth was allegedly murdered by his employer, the main accused in the case Anoop Gupta, surrendered before the Etawah police today.

The police also suspended the Station House Officer of Bharthana, Taukir Ahmad, for negligence of duty and delayed action.

Superintendent of Police S R Ratnakar said, “Ahmad was suspended for not pursuing the case seriously.”

Satyaveer Dohre, the 26-year-old Dalit youth who worked in a sweetshop in the Azad Road area which was owned by Gupta, allegedly died after being thrown into a pan of boiling oil during a scuffle with the shop owner over pending dues on Friday.

Though the police had registered a complaint against Gupta, he managed to escape along with his family members.

In order to mount pressure on the shop owner, the Bharthana police wanted to execute the court’s order to attach his property on Monday, sources said.

The court had issued the order on Saturday. Gupta today approached the local media and pleaded innocence before surrendering before the police.

He said he was not present at the shop when the incident took place and that Dohre might have accidentally fallen into the vessel.
