The SHO, Chandra Bhan Singh, was granted bail in the case of assault and the one under the SC/ST Act while the S-I was sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
Shanker Singh Kripa, Senior Superintendent of Police, Etawah, said: “SHO Singh got bail as he belongs to Scheduled Castes and the SC/ST Act is not applicable to him.”
The final report regarding the theft case against the girl has been submitted and the allegation against her was found to be false, he added.
The Deputy Inspector General, Kanpur Range, SN Sabat, meanwhile, visited the girl’s house on Wednesday and recorded her statement and that of her parents. He also visited the police station and collected details on the sequence of events after the girl was brought to the police station on Monday evening.
“I have been asked to probe the matter,” Sabat said, “the findings would be sent to the DGP Headquarters after three days.”
The girl’s parents still fear vengeance from the errant cops. The SHO and the S-I visited their home several times till last evening, they said.
The SSP, however, said four armed constables have been deployed at the house to ensure the family’s security. Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav, too, visited the family on Wednesday. “He said the police had framed our daughter in a theft case,” said the girl’s father, Bhoop Singh Balmiki.
