Bhangra at all those weddings came in handy, quips Shaleen Bhanot on winning of Nach Baliye 4 with Daljeet Kaur

His is a classic case of have feet, will dance. After weeks of grueling sessions, endless rounds of practice, gasping new forms and styles, making sure their feet tap in tandem, Shaleen Bhanot and Daljeet Kaur danced their way to Nach Baliye 4’s Rs 50 lakh award. In a grand finale which saw Shah Rukh Khan, Lara Dutta, judges Farah Khan, Karisma Kapoor and Arjun Rampal along with some of the most electrifying performances, Shaleen and Daljeet won the hearts of the audience and bagged the title.

“It wouldn’t have been possible without our choreographers Abhimanyu and Aparna, who are a jodi too,” Shaleen’s on ninth heaven after receiving the trophy from none other than Shah Rukh Khan as Lara Dutta, judges cheered on. Taking five minute calls in between congratulatory shoots, this lad from Jabalpur who came to Mumbai as a MTV Roadie soon bagged characters with a lot of grey shades on television, starting with ‘Saat Phere’, ‘Kulvadhu’, ‘Kaajal’ et al. Now that he’s wearing the dancing crown, he takes a moment, in all seriousness, to pull out a list of thank-yous to pals who invited him to their weddings and he in turn had a ball jumping to Bhangra. “I tell you, Bhangra is the best form of dance, for it lends a perfect rhythm and harmony, it has a beat and that’s what’s dance is all about,” he compliments Daljeet’s dancing style too. “When we got into this, we decided to give it our best shot, for this was one platform where we had the opportunity to interact with the audience as individuals and not as some characters on a TV show,” says Shaleen counting the team as one. “Our toughest competitor was us, we had to out-perform ourselves every week. Yes, there were times of frustration, it took a while to understand the pattern, but we took every setback, every low, every criticism as a motivation to keep doing our best,” and here they are, with the award!
