Ludhiana, January 8 Even though Deputy Commissioner Sumer Singh Gurjar yesterday marked an enquiry into the alleged role of RS Patial, Principal, DAV School, BRS Nagar, in selling insurance policies to parents for admissions sought in the school, over two dozen people protested against him by burning his effigy in front of his residence today.

The protesters, which included some Congress workers, alleged that the principal had harassed many parents who wanted to get their wards admitted in the school. “It is deplorable that a principal uses such means to mint money from the parents. In order to facilitate his son’s business in procuring policies for an insurance firm, the principal granted admissions to the wards of these parents only on the condition that they buy a policy from his son Akshay,” alleged a protester.

The deputy commissioner had yesterday marked an inquiry into the case after Jagmohan Sharma, District Congress Committee, had sent a complaint against him. Jagmohan was accompanied by SAD councillor KL Chhabra, who is also the area councillor, SAD working committee member Jiwan Sharma and Congress councillor Amrit Varsha Rampal. Jagmohan alleged that RS Patial had forced about 300 parents to buy policies from his son. Jagmohan had further alleged that the principal’s son had committed a fraud by using four names to sell policies as an agent of ING Vyasa.

Jagmohan Sharma today said, “Though I was in Chandigarh, it is good that the people have now come out in the open to protest against the principal'S corrupt practice after I sent a complaint to the DC about it. He has also marked an enquiry. I have learnt that the SSP has asked the insurance company for the documents of the cheques issued in his son’s name(s), as he has fraudulently used four names to sell cheques. I am committed to fighting this battle to the end, as it concerns the parents who were forced to buy policies.”

Jagmohan further alleged, “The principal’s son sold the policy to about 300 parents, while he had received about 550 forms of applications. If he had not pressurised the parents, he would not have been able to sell more than a hundred policies.” RS Patial has reportedly denied all these allegations, saying that it was only the goodwill of the parents, and that no one was pressurised to buy the insurance policies.
