On Thursday afternoon, Class XII student Nakul (name changed) and his four friends were returning home when they ran into their classmate Avinash (name changed) and his elder brother Mrigank Sharma. The two were waiting for the group outside school along with 10 to 12 henchmen, police sources said.

Nakul’s brother Ashu said: “Mrigank had first punctured Nakul’s car tyres. When my brother and his friends were fixing it, this group overpowered them and attacked with iron rods. All suffered head injuries and some had stitches on their face.”

An FIR (number 75/09) was lodged at the Amar Colony police station against the rowdy group. Both Avinash and Mrigank were arrested and the elder brother booked under Section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code. Though Avinash was granted bail, Mrigank is still in police custody.

Station House Officer S P Gupta confirmed news of the fight and said a case had been lodged against the offenders.

Ashu said the injured were first taken to AIIMS. Nakul is recuperating and is admitted in the Bansal Nursing Home nearby. He said: “They were heavily armed, some were even wearing spiked knuckle guards.”

Ashu also said the police had initially wanted a compromise between the two groups, but the victims’ families forced them to register a case — given the nature of the injuries. Ashu added: “Avinash kept threatening Nakul and his friends in the name of his brother. When his supremacy wasn’t accepted, Mrigank’s gang beat up the boys.”

Police sources said Mrigank had also studied in DAV, East of Kailash.
