The Rs 1-lakh car unveiled by Tata may be a boon for Chandra. “I have two children and it is difficult to travel together. The car would make it easier for us and it also sounds affordable,” said Chandra.
The buzz in the Capital is unmistakably about the Tata Nano and the huge crowd outside pavilion 11 bears testimony to that fact.
According to Dharam Arora, a Gurgaon-based consultant who has seen the Tata Nano, the car is “very roomy” and might be the next “solution for Delhi's commuters”. However, Arora, 29, does not plan to buy the car for the next few years.” I have my own technical reservations,” he said.
Avers Debasis Ray, Head, Corporate Communications, Tata Group, “A large number of people excited about the Nano but that does not mean we would see a great number storming into our showrooms as it is not yet available in the market.”
According to Amarjeet Singh, Sales Manager of Rekhi Motors, Lajpat Nagar, “There is definitely a craze about the car. The number of calls we receive daily has increased by 10 per cent.”
The cars would be available in the showroom in September and the booking will start in July. As of now we have not got the brochure and the prices have not been finalised, said Singh.
“The maximum speed limit of the car is 70 kmph. Though the showroom price is Rs 1 lakh, with road registration and insurance it would cost Rs 1.2 lakh. However, the prices go up till Rs 1.5 lakhs for upgraded versions with air conditioner.”
According to Vijay Chabbra, manager of JMD Motors, East of Kailash, speed is not a hindrance. “As for speed, you can't get everything in a single car. It is an economical car. So far the response has been positive from the people.”
