New Delhi, January 11 Deep Public School, Vasant Kunj, has been closed for next four days, starting Friday, a day after the mysterious death of Ankush Kaundal. The 16-year-old student of Class X fainted in his school's playground on Thursday and later died at the Fortis Hospital in Vasant Kunj.

Denying all charges of "foul play" levelled by the parents of the boy, director of the school K P Singh has called the allegations "false and ridiculous". He said the school took immediate action after the boy fainted and rushed him to the Fortis Hospital without wasting time.

However, Ankush's father Prakash Kaundal said his son died due to the "carelessness of the school authority". "After my son fell down, he was treated in the school medical room for two hours before being taken to the hospital, that is only a hundred meters from the school. Had they taken him earlier, he could have been saved," he said.

Prakash also blames the school for not reporting his son's condition to him. "We were not informed about the incident. It was only after the hospital informed us about his death that we came to know of it."

The reason behind the boy's death is still unknown as the postmortem report is yet to come. However, several discrepancies have cropped up in the versions given to the police by fellow students. Some said Ankush collapsed after being hit by a football on his chest, others said he was involved in a fight, while some said it might have been due to something that Ankush ate in the canteen.

Prakash's friend Prahlad Mishra said Ankush never suffered from any medical problem. "He was a healthy boy," he said. Mother Raksha Kaundal is yet to recover from the shock of losing her only child. Prahlad said so far no condolences have been offered from the school.
