Chandigarh, January 6 students from various states, who are in the city for the ongoing National Games, went on a sight-seeing tour on bicycles today. Led by DPI (Schools) S K Setia, the students visited various spots in the city. About 25 bicycles, given by NGO Yuvsatta, will remain with the visitors till January 10, the final day of their stay in the city.

Guided by volunteers of Department of Education, the visitors visited Sector 17, Rose Garden, Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake. Plans are also underway to take them to the villages and Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary too.

Addressing the students, Setia said that bicycles were the best mode of transport to discover a city. He said that in the West people were now more conscious of health and of protecting their environment. Perhaps they have learnt it from the deteriorating health standards in the recent past owing to rapid increase in industrialisation and the use of modern technology in all walks of life, which ultimately led to higher stress levels and higher levels of pollution. It is high time that we followed their example, he added.

At another function organised by the Education Department at Shivalikview, Sector 17, to promote tourism in the city, 250 players attending the games, were taken to the tourism spots on the Hop-on Hop-off bus and two more buses.
