Lucknow In a daylight incident, six youths posing as electricity meter readers entered the house of a government official and decamped with jewellery and other valuables after injuring his wife and domestic help in Sambhal area of Moradabad district on Saturday.

Devendra Kumar Gupta, an assistant basic shiksha adhikari, is posted in JP Nagar district and his wife, Anita, lives in Sambhal with four sons and a domestic help, Bhagat.

Critically injured Anita and Bhagat have been admitted at the Sambhal district hospital. DIG Moradabad MK Bashal said, “The miscreants appeared to be locals, as primary investigation does not suggest robbers using any vehicle.” Circle Officer (CO) Sambhal Brajesh Singh said: “The incident took place around 12.15 pm when six youths arrived at Gupta’s house. They identified them as employees of electricity department and entered the house on pretext of checking the electricity meter and appliances.”

When they tried to resist, the robbers hit them with the butt of pistols.

They also stuffed cloth in Anita’s mouth and held Bhagat at gunpoint, added Singh.
