Ludhiana The Ludhiana District Bar Association (DBA) has thrown its lot behind the resolution passed by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) (Amendment) Bill.

The Ludhiana DBA has received a copy of the resolution passed by the SCBA. The DBA legal spokesperson, Harpreet Sandhu received a copy of the SCBA resolution passed on January 15. This copy has been sent by Pravin H. Parekh, President, Supreme Court Bar Association, New Delhi. In a statement to the press, Sandhu said that the SCBA, New Delhi, has pursued the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2008, which has now become an Act of Parliament.

Sandhu further said that the resolution was the decision of the executive committee having the view that these amendments had far reaching effects on the administration of justice and smooth functioning of criminal procedure system in India. It also involves the question whether certain powers of the judiciary could or should be transferred to the police. So, the Supreme Court Bar Association is of the opinion that such an amendment ought not to have been introduced or passed without proper and effective consultation with the members of the bar.

Parupkar Ghumman, president, Ludhiana DBA, will get the copy of resolution placed in the local bar office as an information for the members of the Ludhiana DBA and will further take a strong step in the interest of public and law at large.
