DCB busts major fake documents scam in city

Vadodara The Vadodara Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) busted a major fake documents scam in the city, on Wednesday.

The DCB raided the office of Shaileja Patil and Anil Panat and recovered a large number of fake RTO registration documents, replicated letterheads, and rubber stamps of various departments of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), M S University and major nationalised banks.

Printed passbooks, bank statements and VISA cards, replicated pay slips of M S University, fake electricity bills of Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (MGVCL) and fake Sales Tax and Income Tax forms were also recovered from the spot.

The raid was conducted after one Bhavin Patel, a truck driver, was caught with fake RTO papers on Wednesday. DCB Inspector Karim Polra, said: "His questioning led us to the entire racket."

"They had also made fake stamp papers amounting to over Rs 1,500, and water stamps of government documents. The fake documents might be used for varied purposes. Both have been arrested and an offence has been registered against them. We are investigating the other scams they are involved in," he added.
