Vadodara A Vadodara Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) team, which went to Jalgaon to arrest Shaileja Patel, an accused in the fake RTO registration form scam, returned empty-handed after she managed to give the slip to the police.

Investigating Officer, DCB Sub-Inspector R B Devda said Patel might be on her way to Vadodara.

“On the basis of a tip-off, we sent a team to Jalgaon, but Patel managed to escape,” said Devda.

On Wednesday, the DCB had raided the office of Shaileja Patel and Anil Panat and recovered a large stash of fake Regional Transport Office registration documents, fake letterheads and stamps of various departments including VMC, M S University and banks.

The DCB estimates the scam could run into lakhs, as several fake stamp papers of Rs 1,500 denomination were found during the raid.

The scam was unearthed following the arrest of a truck driver with fake RTO papers.
