Kolkata After specific inputs, the Detective Department of Kolkata police on Tuesday began conducting raids in several places in Nadia district in connection with the case of forged Reserve Bank of India challans that were used to procure permits from the transport department, resulting in a loss of a few crores of revenue for the government.

“We have got few names involved in the racket that forged several challans of the transport department. According to information, the kingpin of the racket belongs to the city,” said a senior police officer.

On Monday, a case was lodged with the Hare Street police station by the state transport department on the fraud.

The transport department had earlier sent letters to the economic offence wing and anti-bank fraud sections of the detective department of Kolkata Police asking them to probe the matter. “We have started an investigation,” said Damayanti Sen, DC, DD.
