This is the second arrest in the case after Laxmi Narain Meena. Sources said Delhi Police will also arrest two DDA officials in the next 24 hours for their alleged involvement in the flat allotment scam.

The police had picked up two property dealers from Delhi who were in touch with Meena. During questioning, sources said, they have given leads that point to the two DDA officials.

Subsequently, Meena, arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in the multi-crore DDA (Delhi Development Authority) flat allotment scam, was taken to Jhunjhunu (Rajasthan) last night and raids are being conducted there.

Meanwhile, raids were also carried out in three areas in Delhi — Sangam Vihar, Khanpur and Dwarka — to get details of other property dealers who might also be involved in the scam.

Apart from Delhi, raids were also conducted at a few places in Gurgaon. Delhi Police questioned Deepak, who was under detention for the last two days, to get further leads. Police found evidence against him and arrested him. His name and that of one Suresh figured in Meena’s questioning.

Sources said that they have leads regarding a few property dealers involved in luring Jhunjhunu residents for procuring SC/ST documents. Police have also got leads from bank accounts, which were used to transfer money in the banks at the time of applying for the flats.

Officials have also taken a few mobile numbers from Meena and have put those under surveillance to know about property dealers.

“The property dealers are absconding. We have identified a few of them but cannot disclose much at the moment,” said a source.

The EOW team in Jhunjhunu is checking the houses of all the 177 applicants along with Meena to verify documents. Newsline had reported on Sunday that Meena had collected documents from 177 villagers in Jhunjhunu. Meena had taken the help of two agents, Deepak and Suresh, in collecting documents from these villagers but they were reportedly paid by property dealers.

“Meena’s account is also being checked to get details of any ‘payment’ he might have received from property dealers. His call details are also being analysed. Sources said that when they first came to know that a complaint has been filed with the Delhi Police regarding irregularities in the allotment, Meena had received frequent calls from a Delhi number,” said a source.

No FIR 48 hrs after death of Bayana allottee

Forty-eight hours after the death of Hari Singh, whose name features as one of the successful allottees under the scanner in the alleged DDA housing scam, the Bayana Police is yet to register a First Information Report (FIR) in the matter. Singh was found in an empty house located near his own on January 9 and taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The deceased’s cousin, Jagdish Singh Koli, had formally filed a complaint with the police on the same day. Kishan Devi, Singh’s wife, said that she had visited the police station on Sunday afternoon to inquire about the progress made in her husband’s case, only to find out that the police had not even registered an FIR on Koli’s complaint.

Bayana Police, however, ruled out any foul play in the death of Singh and claimed he had died of a fall down the stairs after a bout of heavy drinking.
