According to investigators, some “key officials” of two leading private banks are under the scanner and are being questioned about details sought by the banks while furnishing loans for applicants.

EOW sources said the property dealer, Satbir, was arrested from Bahadurgarh based on revelations made by M L Gautam, a former DDA employee arrested for his role in the irregularities. Gautam reportedly told police about 17 brokers who had helped supply documents and finances for flat applicants.

Investigators suspect Satbir played a big role in forging identity details — names, PAN cards and bank details among others — of applicants for Gautam. The former DDA employee made these applications in the reserved (Scheduled Tribe) category, investigators said.

Sources said Satbir had opened an account in ICICI Bank’s Paschim Vihar branch and used it for financing applications. Gautam also used the account at times for transactions carried out by the brokers he has named, sources said. The police are now scanning account details to prepare a list of these brokers.

Investigating officials said more arrests are likely as they verify names revealed by Gautam.

Officials said the questionnaire sent to all 5,382 allottees have received “some” response — all those allotted flats were to fill up the questionnaire and send them back for scrutiny as the probe widens its focus in general category allotments as well.
