New Delhi Three days after six-year-old Neha Tamang died during an MRI scan at a city clinic, her parents are still in the dark about the reason, even after a postmortem examination.

Neha died on Tuesday at GMR Institute after she was injected with Thiopintane — a drug used to induce unconsciousness.

Doctors at Safdarjung Hospital who conducted the postmortem maintain that the reasons behind her death are not yet known. “It is not clear what caused the death. We have sent the girl’s viscera for further investigation. It will take three to four days for the report to come in,” said Dr Jagdish Prasad, Medical Superintendent at Safdarjung Hospital.

Neha, who was suffering from a spinal disorder, was brought from Darjeeling last Sunday for treatment at AIIMS in Delhi. The family took her to GMR Institute on Tuesday after doctors at AIIMS asked for an an MRI scan.

“Soon after the injecting her with the sedative, the doctors told us to take her to Aaslok Nursing Home in Safdarjung Enclave, where she was declared dead on arrival. We want the erring doctor punished,” father Neema Tamang said. A case has been registered at Sarojini Nagar Police Station.
