It was 12.45 when the PCR got a call — a truck had crushed their bike near the petrol pump in Bhajanpura. In the next few minutes, Constable Kumar was declared dead when taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

He was 40, and had put in 20 years of service in Delhi Police.

“After the truck hit their bike Kumar fell on the right side, in the truck’s path; Singh fell on the other side,” a senior police official said. “Kumar was dragged under the truck’s wheels for some 100 meters before it stopped.”

Police said the trucker abandoned the vehicle and fled.
