Jalandhar, January 7 A Fast-Track court today sentenced to death serial baby killer Darbara Singh, who had kidnapped about 24 children of migrants and killed them, majority of them in 2004. The then Jalandhar SSP, GPS Bhullar, had arrested him.

Over ten cases of kidnapping, murder and sexual abuse of children are still pending against him. After his arrest, he had admitted that he had killed 17 children, including 15 girls and two boys.

Additional Sessions Judge I S Bajwa’s fast-track court ordered capital punishment in a case of murder of two children, Khurshid, a five-year-old boy, and Roku, a six-year-old girl, both of whom were kidnapped from Basti Mithu.

Notably, Darbara was released in three cases for want of evidence and sentenced to life in one such case. In 2004, he had kidnapped nearly 23 children, majority of them girls between the age group of eight and 12 years. However, six children were recovered while the remaining killed.

Darbara, an ex-serviceman, had confessed that he didn’t like migrant labourers because he had to spend 10 years in jail because of them.

Though he was given 30 years of imprisonment, but released after 10 years owing to his good conduct. Then, he had decided to take revenge from migrants.

A girl child Nishu, whose throat was partially slashed by Darbara but she was saved, helped the police in tracing the accused.
