Ahmedabad Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths caught an inspector of the Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT) and an advocate under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act on Friday. The two had demanded Rs 3 lakh from a farmer of Amreli district to stop the auction of three of his residential properties. The two have been identified as Anil Kumar Sharma (DRT inspector) and Amit Kotak (advocate).

CBI SP Anant Somani said the complainant farmer had taken a loan of Rs 13 lakh from the State Bank of India. After he failed to re-pay the amount, the DRT put four of his residential properties for auction. After the auction of one of them, Sharma called up the farmer and asked him to pay him Rs 3 lakh through Kotak to stop the auction of the remaining three properties. After this, the farmer approached the CBI.

The CBI sleuths caught Kotak while he was accepting Rs 1 lakh as the first installment of the bribe on the Ashram Road. CBI officials have also seized the Honda City car in which Kotak had come to receive the money. Further investigations are on.
