Chandigarh A day after a special CBI court sentenced Professor R S Dhaliwal, former head of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery department at PGI, to five years of imprisonment, the hospital authorities are awaiting a copy of the judgment along with the final report of the institute’s inquiry, to take further action against him.

The PGI had suspended Dhaliwal in 2006, when the charges were framed. While the CBI was conducting its probe, the PGI had marked its own inquiry, being conducted by the Assistant Director General of Health Services in New Delhi.

“Till now, Professor Dhaliwal is under suspension. We will take the next step after we get a copy of the judgment. The report of the inquiry initiated by the PGI is also expected by this month, as we have told the inquiry officer to speed up the matter,” said A K Gupta, Deputy Director, Administration.

While some of his colleagues are tight-lipped about the judgment, they said the former head of department was involved in several philanthropic works.
