Ahmedabad A family of three, suspected to be facing a financial crunch, attempted suicide by consuming pills at their residence in the Satellite Area on Tuesday afternoon.

The three have been identified as Pervez Bharucha (57), his wife Beroz (50) and son Ruzan (27).

Ruzan is reportedly out of danger, while his parents remain in a critical condition.

The Bharuchas are residents of J/101, Safal Parivesh Apartments near Prahlad Nagar Garden. Investigating Officer, Sub-Inspector V S Rabari said some neighbours had informed the 108 emergency service about the Bharuchas’ suicide. The family was first taken to the Sola Civil Hospital and then shifted to the Sterling Hospital at Thaltej.

He said they recovered three notes written by Ruzan from his pocket; one of them being a suicide note and two others addressed to his parents and fiancée each.

“In his suicide note, Ruzan has said they have been indebted to the tune of Rs 71 lakh by some Dr Rajnikant Nair and so he is committing suicide,” said Rabari.

He added: “The family did not interact much and so the neighbours do not know much about them. Their background can only be known after one of them gains consciousness and the doctors give us permission to talk. But investigations are on to find out Dr Rajnikant Nair whose name has been mentioned in the suicide note.”

The Satellite police have registered an offence and further investigations are on.
