Deepak bowls LSJA XI to victory

Lucknow, February 29 A seven wicket haul by Deepak Taneja helped Lucknow Sports Journalists’ Association (LSJA) XI in defeating Voice of Lucknow by 99 runs in their pre-quarterfinal match of the 1st Sahara Cup Media Cricket Tournament at LDA Stadium here on Friday.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, LSJA XI scored 203 runs losing seven wickets in the given 25 overs. HS Sahani with 76 was the top scorer. Sahani’s 76 came off 70 balls which featured 9 boundaries. Sukant Banerjee (39), Nishith Kumar (29) and Rajesh Anand (17 not out) also batted well. Rajeev Anand claimed five wickets giving away 33 runs in his five over spell while Akhilesh Singh took two wickets.

In reply, Voice of Lucknow was bowled out at a total of 104 runs in 21.5 overs. Besides skipper Rajeev Anand (61), no other player could even reach the double-digit mark, due to the devastating spell by Deepak Taneja. Deepak took seven wickets giving away 14 runs in his 4.5 over spell which included a maiden over as well. Sukant Banerjee took two wickets. Vishal Mishra took one wicket.

Rajeev Anand of Voice of India and Deepak Taneja of LSJA XI bagged the `Man-of-the-match’ title jointly for their efforts.

Avadh Tiger’s Cricket Academy defeated Sonet Cricket Club by one wicket in a thrilling knock out stage match of the 5th CAL Trophy at Pt RB Tiwari Stadium here on Friday.

Vikas excels
A five wicket haul by Vikas Singh (5 for 5 in 5.3 overs) helped Prime Sports team in defeating Panthers Tours & Travels by eight wickets in their league match of the Mini Mount Prize Money Cricket Cup at Pt Rahas Bihari Tiwari Stadium here on Friday.
