Ludhiana Keeping his cards closed for the time being, parliamentarian and son of late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, Sunil Shastri today said he is closely watching the political developments across the country. He said he might announce his decision to contest the Lok Sabha election from his father’s constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

However, not disclosing the name of the party he would join, Shastri said that since he has worked with both the Congress and the BJP, it is going to be an important consideration.

He was one of the guests along with former Punjab Director General of Police K P S Gill at the Ludhiana Citizens’ Council programme held at DAV Senior Secondary School.

Airing his views at the seminar on terrorism, Gill said it is possible to weed out the problem through a united effort of all political parties and people. He said it is necessary to understand the crux of terrorism. “We need to defeat the thought process which is responsible for terrorism. It is a new technique of waging a war on a country and yet, it is much different from war.

Therefore, we need to change our techniques and defeat the people who are behind this propagation of such violence throughout the world.”

While making it clear that the terrorists do not any religion, Gill said: “We should not pressurise a community so much that the people feel as if they have to prove that they are not terrorists.” Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal, president of the BJP’s Investor Cell, said the government needs to prevent misuse of information technology by the terrorists.

Deliberating on the topic, he said that terrorists are using social networking sites to propagate hatred and also warned against the use of online maps, which are available on certain websites.
