Chandigarh Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was the chief guest on the 33rd annual convocation of GGDSD College held on Thursday. Principal Dr A C Vaid conferred degrees upon as many as 765 students of the college.

In her convocation address, Dikshit highlighted how students in present times have an extraordinarily wide canvas and vision to choose from, where unlike earlier times, everyone has a range of opportunities available.

“The need therefore is to harness one’s true potential by learning well and then applying this learning so that you ultimately contribute for a better world,” she said.

Dikshit also emphasised that all students must work hard to translate what they have learnt in the classroom to the laboratories of the world when they join the mainstream.

“This country spends a lot to train its youth, who often migrate to countries benefiting those who have not spent a penny on their education,” she remarked.

Hence, she especially urged the students to “stay on as India needs you more than anyone else and you need India too.”

She even highlighted the fact that India possesses huge resources and there is a “need to conserve and manage the resources well”.

This, according to her, is the need of the hour and would go a long way in helping “the India that today stands at the threshold of a great revolution,” realise its true potential, besides being recognised as a “superpower” by the world.

Dr AC Vaid also presented the annual report of the college on the occasion highlighting the achievements as well as the future projects.
