New Delhi, March 3 The Delhi Police are all set to get new mobility with the force getting 629 new motorcycles. Of the new bikes, 250 will be Bajaj Pulsars and these will be especially assigned to investigating officers of sub-inspector level.

The proposal for the additional bikes was mooted a year ago, but only recently got the Home Ministry’s approval. The Delhi Police placed orders for the bikes with the Director General Supply and Disposal last week and the new motorcycles are expected to arrive within a fortnight.

At present, the police have 1,542 motorcycles, out of which 569 are with the traffic police and 973 with local police stations. The Delhi Police will also get an additional 14 riot-control Vajra vehicles. The proposal for the procurement of two bullet-proof Mahindra Scorpios and a similarly armoured Ambassador has also got the nod after a year.
