Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna has appealed to Delhiites for donations for the Red Cross Hospital in Seemapuri “to help save precious lives and provide much needed timely emergency care to patients of the area, specially the underprivileged”.

“The Delhi Red Cross Society runs a 100-bedded hospital in Seemapuri, an area which lacks any proper medical facilities. The hospital, at present, caters to minimal maternity and childcare services, with an Out Patient Department (OPD) visited by doctors once in a day,” Ranjan Mukherjee, officer on special duty to the L-G, said.

“The Red Cross Society proposes to raise funds in order to refurbish the hospital in Seemapuri. The area needs a 24X7 Emergency, as well as a trauma care centre. We appeal to the citizens of Delhi to donate for this cause,” Mukherjee said.

The Theatre Club, Delhi, a theatre group run by Abhijit Sengupta, former Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, has joined hands with the Delhi Red Cross to bring Innerlaws, a comedy written by Poile Sengupta, to the stage.

“Innerlaws is a comedy on the ‘in-law relationship’ and will be staged on February 6, 7 and 8 at the India Islamic Cultural Centre on Lodhi Road,” Sengupta said.

The play, a single act in English, deals with many contemporary social issues and underlines the idea of reaching out to people in times of distress.

“And this is precisely what the Red Cross Society does and encourages us to do: to reach out for help in times of distress,” Poile, the author, said.

Donor passes for the play are available at the Red Cross Bhawan in Golf Links, QBA in Connaught Place, the Mercury Audio Shop in Khan Market and at Axis Bank in Khan Market. Donor passes will also be available at the venue, India Islamic Cultural Centre, depending upon availability, from February 6 onwards.
