The shortfall stood at 700 MW causing many areas to undergo blackouts ranging from 45 minutes to an hour. While the situation is still under control, officials in the power department feel that it could rapidly worsen if the strike goes on any longer.
“We are running a few units at the gas turbine plant with liquid fuel but that could run out by tomorrow in which case we will have to shut down the entire plant down,” a senior power department official said.
At the moment, almost 800 MW of electricity meant for the Capital is lost due to forced and planned outages. “The Pragati power plant is entirely shut due to gas shortage, 6 units at the Gas Turbine are shut and to make things worse one 60 MW unit at Indraprastha power plant had to be shut due to a technical problem. Delhi gets power from Dadri, Anta, Auraiya and Singrauli — and all four have had to shut a few units due to the power shortage,” an official said. In addition, almost 100 MW are lost because certain units of Anta and Auraiya are shut for planned maintenance.
