Delhi varsity in semis

New Delhi Delhi University defeated Madras University by seven wickets to cruise into the semi-final of the All India Inter-University cricket tournament for the Rohinton Baria Trophy in Mumbai. Holders Mumbai joined them after beating Acharya Vinoba Bhave University, Kolkata, three wickets, according to reports reaching here on Monday.

Delhi’s left-arm medium pacer Ravi Dixit claimed four for 28, while the other medium pacers Ranjeet Singh and Chanderpal Saini took two wickets apiece to bowl out Madras for a paltry 90 with No. 8 batsman M Rangarajan contributing an unbeaten 50 off 52 balls. Delhi replied with 91 for three.

In other unfinished matches played over one innings and two days, Vijay Rahul slammed 132 to guide SRM University, Kancheepuram (Tamil Nadu) to 340 all out after they were put in to bat by Calcutta University on Day One while Rashtra Sant Tukdoji Maharaj University, Nagpur were dismissed for 224 by Aligarh Muslim University.

Brief scores: Madras University: 90 all out (M Rangarajan 50 not out; Ravi Dixit 4/28, Ranjit Singh 2/15, Chanderpal Saini 2/23) lost to Delhi University 91/3 (Lokesh Sharma 33, Anshul Gupta not out 24, Rahul Yadav not out 17; Sayed Mansoor 2/14) by 7 wickets.
