Parwanoo Kalka residents were granted a temporary reprieve today after the Supreme Court issued a status-quo order until February 10 regarding the dispute between local residents and the NHAI.

Tension in Kalka ran high this morning when the NHAI officials arrived in the local market with full machinery, intent on demolishing the bazaar.

A disagreement arose when NHAI project director K.P. Sharma attempted to tear down the shops. Though local residents told Sharma about the Supreme Court orders, he claimed that he had not received them.

Panchkula DC Rajinder Kataria, SP Sandeep Karawal, SDM Monika Malik and DSP Daya Nand were among the officers attempting to control the situation. No one, however, was in possession of the court orders. It was only after much arguing that the NHAI officials agreed to leave.
