It was after a number of meetings between the religious heads of various organisations in different states that the management decided to begin with the demolition on Tuesday.
Around 15 heads of different organisations were present during the drive today.
Legal advisor to the management, Advocate Randeep Pratap Singh, said the demolition work will continue on Wednesday and the allegedly illegal structure will be demolished.
“Labourers will be employed to carry out the demolition. The officials of the Administration were adamant that the demolition be carried out and we have agreed,” he said.
The Administration had undertaken a demolition drive at the gurdwara which turned violent as the supporters of the management allegedly pelted stones at the officials. The management, meanwhile, alleged that the officials entered the gurdwara premises with their shoes on.
Interestingly, the head priest of the gurdwara, Swaroop Singh, turned out to be a tubewell operator of the Municipal Corporation. An enquiry was later conducted and he was dismissed. While a case has been registered against him, Swaroop Singh is still absconding.
Three officials of the Administration and Estate office have already been suspended for failing to take action when the building was under construction.
