Ludhiana In a bid to put curbs on the tendency of government school teachers to skip teaching work, the District Education Officer (Secondary) Ludhiana has issued strict orders to the school headmasters and principals.

Sudesh Bajaj, District Education Officer (Secondary), Ludhiana, said, “I have issued orders to all the principals and headmasters of government schools to not to depute any teacher for handing over dak to the District Education Office, Ludhiana. I have asked them to instead send non-teaching staff i.e. clerks or school laboratory attendents for handing over the dak to DEO. The teachers and school heads will visit DEO office only when summoned by the officers there.”

It has been observed that many a time, teachers from government schools in rural areas, who live in Ludhiana but serve in rural areas, get the priviledge of visiting DEO office with official dak during school hours. While these teachers get done with their work at the DEO office within half an hour, they do not return to schools. Interestingly, the school heads/principals count them ‘on duty”. But this practice affect the regular study schedule in schools. DEO said that the recent orders would slam brakes on this practice.

The DEO has also issued instructions for streamlining the morning assembly in the government schools. She said, “I have asked the teacehrs to line up their classes in the morning assembly and take roll call of students there itself. The morning assembly will be conudcted by the physical education teacher. In his/her absence, any other teacher can conduct the morning assembly.”

She said that instructions had also been issued to the schools to conduct regular yoga exercises during morning assembly and not to depute the students for their personal works, The schools have also been warned against giving corporal punishment to children. The teachers have also been asked to keep their cell-phones switched off while teaching.
