“We want to make the most of the land bank. Instead of leasing it out on long term, we plan to employ other options that can earn us revenue for a long time. For this, we are in process of appointing a financial expert,” said Ratnakar Gaikwad, Metropolitan Commissioner.
Meanwhile, according to a senior MMRDA official, two major land deals with Jet Airways and Starlite Systems could be scrapped as both the winner of their respective plots are yet to pay the amount to the MMRDA. The officials are eyeing this as an opportunity to cash in on the two plots—24, 000 sq. metres won by Jet Airways and two 7050 sq. metres-residential plot bagged by Starlite by adopting the alternative to earn “perpetual” revenue.
