Ludhiana District Forest Officer (DFO) Mahavir Singh will face an inquiry for allegedly seeking bribe to give clearance to the construction of a hotel on forest land on the Ferozepur Road. The authorities of Hotel Piccadly have alleged that the DFO had sought Rs 5-lakh bribe, a claim which was vehemently denied by the DFO.

A team of officials headed by Chief Conservator Parveen Kumar came to the city this morning to inquire into the complaint.

The DFO, while talking to Newsline, said: “The hotel authorities had spoiled our plants and had made quarters for workers on forest land, which is a gross violation. A notice was then sent and an FIR was also registered in this regard but the hotel authorities are leveling wrong charges.”

Speaking about the probe, Singh said: “A probe is going on in the matter but we will seal the land.”

“I had told one of the representatives of the hotel that a formal NOC is required for clearance of the forest land. A fee is also to be deposited but he misunderstood me,” the DFO added.

The hotel is coming up on one acre of land and was purchased for around Rs 78 crore in an auction of GLADA held more than a year ago.
