Aulakh spoke to functionaries of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, as various Sikh bodies condemned the entry of policemen into the Darbar Sahib complex and warned police officials to remain extra cautious while resorting to such extreme acts.

“I have recorded the statements of various persons concerned. I am looking into video clips of the incident and preparing the report to submit to the CM,” he said, while refusing to divulge more. Asked about the police resorting to extreme acts and allegations of sacrilege, he said all the aspects were under investigation.

IG Border Range Rajpal Meena said they had released all the 11 girl students arrested yesterday. He refused to comment more, saying the DGP was conducting the probe himself.

On the other hand, one of the eight students injured in the lathicharge, Pardeep Kumar, is critical at the Shri Guru Ram Dass Institute of Medical Sciences (SGRIMS). “His condition deteriorated in police custody last night,” said Gurmukh Singh Mann, heading Punjab Students’ Union (PSU). Mann also demanded that all the students in police custody be freed immediately and sought action against the police officials who resorted to beating the students.

Over 30 students from PSU and Bharat Naujawan Sabha (BNS) were arrested by the police yesterday.
