Mumbai Acting on a complaint filed by a 45-year-old housewife residing at Kumbharwada in Dharavi, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a police sub inspector for demanding bribe.

According to complainant Hazra Katiyar, the accused, Dadarao Bhujang, had demanded a bribe for ‘settling’ an assault case registered against the complainant’s son a few months ago. “When Katiyar’s son was arrested in an assault case, Bhujang had approached her and demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 for granting bail to the accused and settling the matter outside the court. When Katiyar told him that she could not pay such a huge amount, Bhujang agreed on a sum of Rs 21,000 to be paid in installments,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Pandurang Shinde from the ACB.

Even after accepting the promised amount, Bhujang allegedly demanded more money from Katiyar and threatened to cancel her son’s bail if the amount was not paid. Finally, Katiyar approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau and registered a complaint.

“Acting on the complaint, we decided to lay a trap to arrest Bhujang red-handed. On our instructions, Katiyar visited the Dharavi police station with a sum of Rs 5,000 to pay Bhujang. We arrested him red-handed,” added Shinde.
