Notable here is that four colonies falling between Adwad Lopo and Mori gate reported nearly 125 patients sick with diahorrea, as a result of unfit drinking water supply. The health officials have been running health camps from a local gurudwara and have also asked people not to drink water coming through the taps.
The SMO, Dr Hari Krishan Singla, who monitored the situation personally today, said, “The situation here is under control and my team of doctors is working round the clock. The civil surgeon, Ludhiana, has sought a report from us on the issue which we will submit shortly. At the same time, we have also written to the Nagar Council urging it to ensure clean drinking water in this area.”
During the checking of a tubewell, from which the water was being supplied to this area, the health officials had expressed shock and dismay at the broken pipes and dilapidated condition of the chlorination tank.
The executive officer of the council, Bhushan Rana added, “We were trying to locate the fault where sewerage water was getting mixed with the drinking water. We found that pipes of the two houses were leaking leading to the present situation. We have disconnected water supply to these homes.”
On the condition of the water supply tubewell, the EO added, “We have given orders to fix the problem. The broken pipes will be mended immediately and the chlorination tanks will also be replaced as soon as possible. We are ensuring that such a problem does not occur again in future.”
